Excellent Guidance ( joemath )
This guide will assist you in getting into the college
which suits you best. It sets forth discriminating
criteria. i.e.
o Applicants to Syracuse University get between 540-640
on the language portion of the SAT and 580-680 in math
o Applicants to the New School have 4 units of english;
3 units of math and 3 units of HS science; your prior
school record is important; you should request an interview;
the written essay is an important part of your application;
standardized test scores are important
The typical school description contains the following data:
o admissions
o major fields of study
o professions served
o teacher certifications
o campus life
o services provided
o costs and key stats
This guide will be helpful in developing a baseline of
information on schools of interest . You should always
visit the institution of your choice and talk to both
students, as well as teachers/administrators.

No... Just No
Look I only have myself to blame for purchasing this book in the first place. There are several college guides hanging around my house that are perfectly usable (they belonged to my older sister)but as a teen who is just starting my college search; I wanted something of my own. Needless to say I begged my mom to let me buy this book and now I truly regret it. This book may seem to be filled with all of the information you could possibly want (the sheer size of the guide leads one to believe that it is thorough) but sadly this assumption is WRONG. The Ultimate College Guide is packed with numbers and statistics. You will find no descriptions of the feautured school within its pages. Maybe, the books format appeals to some readers (I can only speak for myself). I found this book to be impersonal, vague, and lacking in relevant information. I would not recommend it.

Count on US News
Regardless of what you may hear. People can count on US News to continue to deliver solid information on higher education and even rank schools based on certain criteria. I reccommend guides like this as a starter if someone has no idea what school is best for them. Or if someone simply wants some information on a school in one handy book. Otherwise, it is going to be difficult to find this kind of information on your own. Solid guide.

"My Choices for 2007's BEST College Guides..."
This certainly ranks up there. My other choices for 2007, hands down:
1) How To Ace Your Way Through College & Still Have a Life
2) The MLA Handbook
3) Fiske Guide to Colleges
