Product Description
Referred to as the "Grand Prix of epidemiology" by The New York Times, this study examines more than 350 variables of health and nutrition with surveys from 6,500 adults in more than 2,500 counties across China and Taiwan, and conclusively demonstrates the link between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. While revealing that proper nutrition can have a dramatic effect on reducing and reversing these ailments as well as curbing obesity, this text calls into question the practices of many of the current dietary programs, such as the Atkins diet, that are widely popular in the West. The politics of nutrition and the impact of special interest groups in the creation and dissemination of public information are also discussed.

Product Reviews:
  Excellent
I purchased this and Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn - two books closely related / companions in my opinion. They even talk about each other. Some of this book is a little in-depth for the person who is not interested in scientific studies, but the authors do a pretty good job of putting it all in plain english. This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn about how nutrition relates to food and disease. It is also a great book for learning about the shortfalls of the medical system in America and the politics behind medicine and the food industries. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED reading for anyone who wishes to be in-the-know.

I also appreciate the viewpoint of food and thousands of chemicals in food interacting together to produce good or bad health, as opposed to many other books and studies which take a more isolated approach, such as studying vitamin C and only vitamin C, for example, This book takes a more wholistic approach - meaning that the entire food must be considered in how all things interact, and not just one single element of nutrition alone.
Life or death information ( momasita )
This book was recommended to me by a friend. It took me a while to get the book...and a few months before I got to it. Once I started reading it, I was on fire...and telling anyone who would listen. Every human being should be able to read this book. Dr. Campbell lays out the research in understandable terms...and it is shocking to read. It proves to me that we must be in charge of our own health...and that means eating healthy...and vegetarian. This information can truly save lives.
If you are interested in your health,
this is a MUST read. I am about to change my lifestyle. I gave a copy of this book to everyone in my extended family. My son started to change his lifestyle while reading the book. Reading it will puzzle your mind and do something good for you and your beloved ones.
The China Study: a book that could change the Americain perception of diet ( lisaro153 )
The information in this book is highly valuable and has large ramifications on the average American diet. Well written and very informatative. Anyone interested in their health should read this book.
  Excellent! ( robhutchings2 )
Very well presented research that matches what I've seen traveling around the world. It also matches what I see with immigrant families and the changes that occur when some adopt the american diet. The western diet needs to change. After reading this book, it was very easy to give up my animal-based diet. Of course, eating out is a challenge, but I'm learning. :-) I'm losing weight and feeling great.
