Product Reviews:
Joe Salatin is a breath of freshness in the cluttered airwaves of sustainable agriculture
I came across Joe's work 3rd party whilst reading 'The Omnivores Dilemma' and couldn't wait to purchase something he wrote himself. `You Can Farm' is a wonderful compost of life truths for the individual via the power of logic, observation, trial-and-error and the faith so lacking in living today - all wrapped up in a how-to book on sustainable agriculture
  Love These books!
I love this series of books on farming. While some may see Salatins books as a bit strange, I find them very informative and inspiring. He stress how to be successful in faming in a no nonsense way. He stirves to show you economical ways to farm without breaking the bank. If you have ever farmed you will appreciate this book. While everything in this book won't work for everyone it will inspire you on how to make the best use of what you do have and to keep your mind open to the possiblities of farming successfully.
  Earthmother hippies beware! ( smarsupial77 )
I wouldnt have Joel Salatin over for dinner, if you know what I mean. He'd be THAT guest. He comes across as a nutcase nightmare straight out of the Great Depression. BUT- Joel Salatin is a genius, and his book was part of what pushed us into farming. If you are trying to figure out if farming, or even homesteading, is for you- then this is the book you need. Especially if you have rosy, idealistic, earthmother fantasies. This book is the equivalent of an ice water bath for people thinking about getting "out there". A MUST read, just take a deep breath and two good pinches of salt. You can farm like Joel Salatin, just dont turn into Joel Salatin!
  excellent advice
Joel Salatin has at least 20 years of successful farming behind him. and i mean farming where the land has not only not been damaged, but improved. in sharp contrast to traditional farming methods.
he also produces clean healthy food that tastes better than most people have ever tasted. whole generations of people dont even know what real food tasted like, before factory/concentration camp style feedlots and chicken houses were invented.
and he tells us how to start small, do it right, in a way that is easy to follow.
i wish more people knew about salatin and his many books. this is what real homeland security is, not chasing drug dealers in foreign countries, and killing people for oil.
  Great Book ( bdinkin1 )
I found this book to be a great source. Salatin's writing is to the point. After reading this book I purchased another title from Salatin. Can't wait to finish it.
