Porsche 911 Carrera Service Manual 1984-1989 - Coupe, Targa, and Cabriolet
Answers many questions the Haynes manual does not and has cleaer pictures and diagrams. Worth the extra cost over a Haynes manual. Very good diagrams of the DME fuel injection system and related electronics, for example.

You get what you pay for.
This is a great manual. I figured the most expensive would get me the best. I was not disappointed. The book breaks the car down into nine systems. After reading a section, you have a good idea of how that part of the car works. You know what special tools are needed for each repair, a step by step of how to do it, and what not to do. If you want to replace a power window switch or take the engine out, the book tells you how to do it. I also have a '79 911 and I'm getting the other manual that covers the earlier years as well. I originally wanted the book just to learn more about Porsche's, but I'm getting a kick out of doing my own repairs.

porsche 911 service manual ( mschafer71 )
don't you really want to know it all works? my father always said if you want it done right you probably should do it yourself!!! 911's are the best, if you haven't done it you probably won't get it.

This is a "must have" book for anyone that wants to work on their 911. There are quite a few sections that could use more detail, but a book can only be so big.

Disappointed that there is no real cabriolet info
I am a long time Porschephile, 20 years plus, and I bought this specifically because I needed some technical info for a 1989 911 Carrera cabriolet top repair, and there is absolutely nothing in this manual in that department. I was very disappointed in that regard. If you have a coupe, it'll be useful, as there are great photos, etc, but to say "Cabriolet" on the cover is totally false advertising. There's more info in your driver's manual about that aspect than there is in this book.
