Study Guide for the Middle School Tests (Praxis Series)

Product Reviews:
Just took the Praxis 2 ( eletut )
This is the only book that I used to study for the Praxis 2 in Middle School English. I read a number of reviews and glanced through quite a few other books. This one seemed to be the most focused on my subject test and the cheapest. It has a helpful review section of grammar, literary terms, novels to be familiar with, literary periods, and pedegogy. There are also example responses to the essay questions, and I found those very helpful as well. I took every practice test in the book to prepare for the Middle Grades test, but only 2 of the tests were really helpful since the other ones forcused on different skills. I felt very prepared for the test overall and I'm just awaiting my scores!
  A Worthless Piece Of Crap
I studied this worthless piece of crap for a whole month before taking the Praxis 0041 and did not come close to passing. This useless rag had about 10 questions about Shakespeare's Hamlet and my test had NO questions at all about Will. It DID, though, have about 60 questions on authors not mentioned in this waste of a good tree. Thanks to crap like this I will NEVER get to be a teacher because most of these prep books are worthless!!! Also, I have NO idea how I can study for another test because that worthles ETS does not let you see which questions you missed.
Better than the books ETS puts out! ( dbgoodpasture )
My biggest complaint is that the author, or editor, screwed up on the stylistics for the APA. Tennessee requires that teacher pass both 0041 and 0043 to be licensed. Considering what was at stake I decided not to scrimp. I paid $25 for the study guide for 0041 and $30 for the guide for 0043. The ETS books were much easier than the actual test. My biggest gripe, however, is that the guide for 0041 didn't contain any questions about poetry, e.g. rhythm and rhyme, count, etc. This led me to believe that there would be no poetry on the test, after all, the guide was published by ETS the creators of the test. The Cliff's book had a lot of questions and explanations about poetry thatI had spent a lot of time studying and almost scrapped it when I got the ETS books. Well, it turned out that there were several poetry questions on the test.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE ETS SERIES!

By the way, I passed, but I'm sure if I'd had no preparation I would not have. I didn't get in the top 05% for which I was aiming. Apparently ETS and I have a difference of opinion about what constitutes a good essay.
  Great Book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( jfd50 )
I used this book to study for the Middle School English Test(0049). I found it to be helpful in most aspects but on a test like this the book can not possibly cover every single aspect. It does cover a great portion and I would recomend this book to anyone who needs a study guide fast. (I only prepared for the test for about a week and a half.)
Not very helpful for essay test
I used this book to study for both the 0041 and 0042 tests. This book really helped with the 0041 test- I got 190/200 correct. It did not help with the essay test at all, though. The book gives sample questions and sample answers, but did not explain what made some answers better than others. I ended up not meeting the required score for my state, even though I knew the study guide inside and out. If you need a study guide for the essay test, don't get this book.
