Product Description
This best-selling collection is the only reader that systematically weaves together three types of articles–classic, contemporary, and cross-cultural–for each general topic typically covered in a sociology course. Seeing Ourselves conveys sociology's diversity of viewpoints and methodologies and includes important issues and debates that capture the fascinating complexity of the social world.

the absolutely perfect text for an intro to soc class ( cem148 )
I used this text for an intro to sociology class at a major university. I love that it is different from the run-of-the-mill intro textbook; instead of 20+ chapters of terms, definitions, etc., this book contains whole or excerpted readings, many of which are classic sociological articles (for example, On Being Sane in Insane Places and The McDonaldization of America). With very few exceptions, this book contains the readings I would choose to assign for an intro class if I weren't using a textbook.
